Why do teachers teach?

WHY DO WE TEACH?

Hello Educator,

Why do YOU teach?

Teaching and learning should be done with the end goal of bringing out desirable changes to the behaviour of human beings by imparting knowledge or habits through instruction or study.

Current trends have shown that teaching and learning for the sake of acquiring information is not working, and it never will.

Education should be tailored to the ability to apply the knowledge gained to better humanity.
Invariably, concepts such as consumption, food wastage, environmental education, social responsibility, inclusion and community development among other sustainability concepts should be taught in formal and informal education not just theoretically but through practical application. It is through this that learners will be able to be able to relate what they are taught in theory with reality and it follows an iterative process of internalising what they have been taught, trying it out, reflecting on the experience & critically thinking about ways to improve the experience.

That brings us to where the world is focused right now, SUSTAINABILITY. It is by incorporating sustainability concepts in our teaching and learning that we can have an educational system/curriculum that truly delivers for the 21st century.

Yes OR Yes?
